The sport's image gets tarnished once again

We were going to blog about what a great day it is at the races today...but the BHA charging 13 people with corruption has rather spoilt that.

The race-fixing allegations involve two owners and five jockeys.

Jockeys Greg Fairley, Paul Doe, Kirsty Milczarek and Jimmy Quinn along with former rider Paul Fitzsimons have been charged with “conspiring to commit a corrupt or fraudulent practice” following a British Horseracing Authority investigation into suspicious betting on races.

They are accused of “intentionally failing to ensure that their horse was run on its merits” and are alleged to have liaised with betting exchange account holders, offering information about horses for gain.

Registered owners Maurice Sines and James Crickmore have also been charged by the BHA, together with six other men – Peter Gold, Nick Gold, Shaun Harris, David Kendrick, Darren May and Liam Vasey.

The allegations focus on horses being laid to lose on betting exchanges in 10 races between January 17 and August 15, 2009.

* Welcome to all of our new members and here's hoping for a successful weekend.
Our extra text messages are proving to be popular and we hope everyone is sharing the success!

* We are really intrigued at the news that Wootton Bassett will clash with Frankel at Royal Ascot.
We love Wootton Bassett and tipped the star colt in the French 2,000 Guineas. Sadly he finished fifth after a wide draw and a poor start.
We also think Frankel is awesome - and said so after his blistering last appearance at Newmarket.
This really could be a fantastic race for race-lovers everywhere.

Interesting day for winning horse racing tips

We tipped five hourses yesterday - and had THREE winners and a very close second.

Members saw a good 7/2 winner in Gatepost in the 4.10 at York. That's one to keep an eye on in future.

We were really disappointed to see that Barefoot Lady lost by a nosehair to Joviality. She's only a small horse but runs with a big heart!

Our first tip ran well until the last couple of furlongs in a big field.

Our members also received two tips late on for horses running at Naas.

This is a tipping service we are hoping to build on through the flat season - we get information through the day and will be sharing the good tips with our members.

* Frankel was awesome yesterday. For anyone who didn't see the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket, the horse was just supreme and led from the front with a classy field of horses behind him. He romped home at 1/2 but I imagine he will be a bigger odds-on favourite for the Derby.

* Two punters share £576,894 Scoop6 bet (Racing Post): TWO punters shared Saturday's £576,894 Tote Scoop6 thanks to the surprise success of 18-1 shot Tangerine Trees in the Group 3 Pearl Bloodstock Palace House Stakes, the final leg of the bet.

The Bryan Smart-trained six-year-old eliminated all but two of the remaining 62 tickets, meaning the two successful punters collected £201,913 each. One was a large-staking Totesport customer but the other staked just £8 in a William Hill betting shop.

Whoever you are - well done! Having to rely on an 18/1 shot would have been an interesting race to watch.

It's the first classic of the season - will we see an upset?

Today sees Frankel tackle the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket and everyone is expecting what is a truly great horse to be crowned as one of the best racing has ever seen.

But here at Winners Bet Winners some of us have our doubts.

Frankel was unbeaten as a two-year-old and ran exceptionally well with many of the horses he beat going on to win other high quality group races.

His debut this season was in the Greenham at Newbury and he was fresh and lively and won the race with ease.

In the ratings he is miles ahead of anything else but, as I say, some of us here are unsure that he will pull off the Guineas.

The going is good to firm (in places) and we've seen lots of decent horses being turned over here.

The course itself has some troubling undulations. This hilly nature means horses are forced to overreach and that can hurt, and Frankel has a high stride that looks much more suited to the soft ground he raced on last October at Newmarket in the Dewhurst.

The doubters among us may be proved wrong and Frankel may overcome the conditions and that's what will make him a truly great horse which will be a boost to racing.

* I see Rob Wright in The Times is tipping against Frankel. He is opting for Pathfork. It's a bold prediction and one which makes sense though the Irish horse hasn't run this term yet.

It's a great line-up and is sure to be a great race.

Two bets and 15 points profit yesterday

Another good day in the sun for our tipping experts at Winners Bet Winners.

We had Voler la Vodette in the first at Fairyhouse and then Sylvestris did the honours in the 4.10 at Warwick.

We've had a few good winners in the past few days - what will we choose today?

* Interesting to read the speculation about Frankel for the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket on Saturday and how he is unbeatable.

He is a fantastic colt no mistake and is expected to be the shortest priced favourite for the race in 30 years.

The 'experts' are looking at Jessica Harrington's Pathfork as being the closest contender to taking Frankel on.

Is the race really sewn-up? What do you think - comment below!

Our members enjoy an 11/2 winner

It was a good day's racing in the sunshine yesterday - made better when Silvanus romped home in the 5.40 at Musselburgh. Mr Hanaghan doing the honours once again.

We tipped the horse as a three point win and we were really pleased to see it win.

We've got some interesting selections today at Fairyhouse and Warwick. We've got high hopes that our selection process really is second to none!

Will they ban the whip?

Interesting debate around the use of the whip after Towcester said it wants to ban whips from September.

It's been a long and interesting argument for and against the whip and it will be fascinating to see what happens in the coming months. It means that the hands and heels rule that they use for some conditional races will apply to all the course's fixtures.

If you have an opinion about the debate, please feel free to comment on this blog posting.

* Welcome to the new members of Winners Bet Winners. It's an interesting day's racing today and we've taken a long hard look at what's going on.

We've selected a race at Sandown and two in Cork for our selections.

A good day for WBW members

A good day yesterday for Winners Bet Winners and our followers.

We started with a late tip (which we dubbed as an 'EXTRA') which went out 30 minutes after the main advice.

All was well because Choice of Remark ran in the 2.30 at Folkestone. We tipped it as a 2 points e/w bet - and it came in third.

Soon after we were cheering on Othermix in the 2.50 at Ludlow. It was tipped as a 3 points win at 13/8. It came in as the 5/4 favourite.

Unfortunately the jockey on our last racing selection decided to follow the fast pace set in the race and was pipped at the end.

So while today is Good Friday and there is no racing, we are looking forward to the coming few days of racing. Here at Winners Bet Winners we are going to be very busy and there are some very attractive cards to work through.

We've done the homework and everyone at Winners Bet Winners is looking forward to a successful three days.

Today's racing card is a cracker with seven races and some fine horses in the frame.

It's also on the telly and there's nothing like televised racing on a mainstream channel to help bring an edge to the day's event.

Highlights today include the Totesport Bowl over 2m (3.05) and there's some very impressive prize money on offer.

It's going to be a great day at the races - so why not join the winning team and improve your horse racing success?

More betting success from WBW

Great news for our subscribers! From the two tips we put up yesterday we saw Hits Only Jude go in at 5/1. We told our followers to go e/w so that meant a 13 point result.

Our second tip was Changing the Guard in the 4.10 at Pontefract. This was a great run from the Fahey horse with Hanagan on board - but Ingleby Sprit managed to maintain the lead in a great race.

That's still an impress +33.73 points profit for our members for THIS MONTH.

Our standings today mean that we are in second place in the Racing Index which independently proofs race horse tips from a range of services.

Better still we are still on course for becoming the best horse race selection service in the UK. This is something we have predicted for a long time!

On another note: We are working hard for the Aintree meeting and looking forward to offering a selection of great horse race selections.

The Winners Bet Winners Newsletter - Saturday 12 March

The Cheltenham Festival

Here at Winnersbetwinners we are ready for Cheltenham and today we are going to give you a few handy hints to improve your chances of success at the greatest racing show on earth.

Your best bet of course would be to join winnersbetwinners where you will get the very best info and advice for the full four days of top quality action but here are some other clues.

1. Nothing beats festival form!

A horse may have done very little this season but the festival races are run at a unique speed so a horse that has shown it relishes this unique test can repeat it.

2. Look for good ground form!

Cheltenham's drainage is so good now it is very rarely bad ground at the festival, look for horses with good fast ground form or that are bred to go on it.

3. Beware of small field form!

Many Irish horses turn up having won several 3 or 4 runner races - beware of this because Cheltenham races are run with big fields at fast paces which may mean their form is worthless.

4. Avoid jockeys and trainers with bad records at the festival

If they have consistently failed to cut it at Championship level you will profit by guessing they are not good enough so better still lay them on the exchanges. For example, Noel Meade, the Irish trainer, has a shocking record at the festival, avoid at all costs.

5. Back big priced horses from top stables!

If it's from a yard who do well at the festival they may have laid it out, ignore its disappointing form and give it a chance - the top yards win with big prices every year.

There's five great tips but remember the biggest tip is to join the consistently best race horse selection service:  winnersbetwinners.

Cheltenham Calling

Cheltenham begins a week today and here at Winnersbetwinners we are hard at work bringing you the very best racing selections throughout four days of punting heaven.

Many thought the decision to go to four days would dilute the excitement but that has not been the case and this year the sense of anticipation is palpable.

The Irish challenge led by the incomparable Willie Mullins will be confident of a big week but the home side led by Nicholls and Henderson will hope to keep them at bay.

Every day we will be building up to what's sure to be a big week for this racing service.

"I don't bet in Hunter chases - they're for mugs"

How many times have we heard this cry from the resident betting shop or betfair forum self-proclaimed "expert"?

I stopped counting at a thousand so cannot give you an exact figure but I will briefly explain why you should ignore such sages and look very closely at this type of race.

If I told you that you could bet on a type of racing where very few runners have a genuine chance of winning and the prices can be extremely generous and winners are essentially unpenalised yet continue to start odds against would you like to know more?

The type of races I am describing are hunter chasers who, by definition, are horses who belong to a hunt (you don't have to be pro hunting to bank the winnings - trust me!) and are ex-chasers or point-to-point horses.

Many say they don't bet in them because of the amateur jockeys but I would point out that there are very few fallers in this sphere and that you can quickly work out the bad jocks and avoid them which of course you should do in all racing!

Formlines are available and the Racing Post carries plenty of info which you can use to your advantage.

But the great thing is the vast majority of the field can be discounted as they are essentially fun horses out to give their owners and riders a day out.

Concentrate at the front end of the betting and with trainers, many of whom have horses under rules like Twiston Davies who have regularly been successful in this sphere.

Remember that these races are run at a slower pace, usually so the horse will stay further than you might have thought and it means they are perfect for front runners (out of the way of the poorer runners).

So when you see the others slope off to wait for the next low grade handicap wait a while and give these races your full attention that's what we do here at WinnersBetWinners and let the "Mugs" miss out!
